last day at PDA…we are at the center of the universe of prefilled syringes and inejction devices!

We had a great day #1 at the conference filled with seminars of innovation and good discussion on the expo floor.  This is the premier conference where industry leaders can meet with colleagues from drug and biologic manufacturing, suppliers, regulatory professionals and academicians from around the globe, who will discuss today’s challenges with drug delivery and packaging technologies, formulation development and improving patient outcomes.  Genentech sponsored a beach bash complete with surf music to match the vibe that we have in Huntington Beach.  Swing by and see us tomorrow before the conference wraps up!  More info on the event at the PDA website.

hard at work in the booth at the DCN advanced lateral flow course

We are halfway through day 2 at the DCN Advanced Lateral Flow Course and are having so much fun learning about all of the innovative diagnostic tests being developed by the group.  The frosty cold root beer we have at the booth is helping everyone make it through the day as it is so hot here in San Diego! The lectures are highly informative and helpful for companies in the midst of development or looking to develop a rapid point of care assay in the next few years.  If you missed it this year, stay tuned for details on next year’s event.

First Engineering Company/Incubator Combination in San Diego County, Foundry Medical Innovations, Opens in Carlsbad to Serve the Medical Device, and Diagnostic Community

CARLSBAD, Calif., Sept. 3, 2014  Toolbox Medical Innovations is the first of its kind in San Diego County to combine two of the biggest booms in healthcare, the decade-long expansion of medical and diagnostic device service providers, with the rapid trending of startup incubators. This August, Foundry opens in Carlsbad, bringing a commitment to promote medical and diagnostic device development through innovation, incubation, and collaboration.

After John Zeis sold his successful medical product development company to expand his service offerings, he and Paul DiPerna, founder and former Chief Technology Officer of Tandem Diabetes Care, came together to brainstorm how best to serve the local community and promote growth within these two thriving San Diego industries. Zeis carries with him his expertise in diagnostic product engineering and company operations. He teams with DiPerna, who brings his medical device engineering skills and value as a vetted leader, having successfully brought Tandem from start-up to a publicly traded company.

Foundry officially launched this August, providing comprehensive medical and diagnostic device development including engineering, regulatory support, clinical trial organization and execution, and complete transfer to manufacturing. The headquarters also houses an incubator that serves the local startup community by incorporating shared workspace, access to technical engineering talent, business and marketing plan support, and vital connection to the venture capital community.

“Toolbox Medical Innovations is fortunate enough to be on the ground floor of cutting edge medical technology and we want to help spur this growth where we can,” says Paul DiPerna, President of the Systems Engineering and Incubation Business at Toolbox Medical Innovations. This key move is highly strategic because in addition to serving mid to large corporations internationally, Foundry will be leveraging and increasing San Diego’s stronghold in the fast growing medical device, diagnostics, and biotech communities. Foundry is proud to accomplish this strategic vision by encouraging startup innovation locally and globally as a foundation for expertise, guidance, and support beyond monetary resources.  More info at www.foundrymed.com.
